Technical Waste Coordinator

We’re looking for a Waste Coordinator for a 12 month fixed term contract. Based at our Capenhurst site location you’ll provide technical and operational support to waste activities undertaken by UNS. The Waste Coordinator will: prepare routine documentation for disposal of waste from site and coordinate sampling, characterisation, packaging etc. activities. The Waste Coordinator shall assist Senior Advisers to ensure waste activities are well planned and compliant with legislation. The Waste Coordinator will act as an interface between the waste team and project or operations teams, ensuring project/operations needs are understood and communicated to the waste team as soon as practicable, and ensuring that waste management activities undertaken by projects/operations are carried out correctly.

What you’ll do:

• Ensure waste advice is adhered to as provided by the waste engineer or senior waste engineer
• Ensure characterisation advice is adhered to as provided by the waste engineer or senior waste engineer
• Ensure waste and sample consignments are correct, compliant and that they are scheduled and managed effectively.
• Participate and where appropriate lead waste management training, toolbox talks and on the job coaching.
• Assist in audits on behalf of UNS
• Perform duties of a consigning officer as required.
• Ensure wider waste team are kept up-to-date with project/plant requirements and emergent issues.
• Prepare method statements, risk assessments and waste consignment paperwork for wastes that are being treated, packaged and disposed of by UNS.


What do you need to thrive in this role?

• Degree qualified in relevant subject
• Experience working in relevant field
• Disposal and treatment routes for waste in the UK
• Strong IT skills – Must be fully competent on Microsoft Office applications such as Excel, Word etc.
• Keen eye for detail
• Understanding of project programmes and organisation of workloads
• Waste Management
• Radioactive Waste
• Characterisation of Radioactive Waste
• Transportation of Radioactive Waste
• A basic understanding of High Resolution Gamma Spectroscopy and other characterisation techniques is desirable
