Site Safety Case Manager

We’re pleased to present the opportunity to join Urenco as a Site Safety Case Manager. Based at our Capenhurst site location, you’ll manage the SCM team, to provide advice to the whole site on the requirements of the safety cases, and interact with the regulators and Independent Assurance on safety case matters.
They are expected to have knowledge of all assessments across the site, and the claims made within them. They are responsible for ensuring that safety assessments are delivered, implemented, adopted and maintained as required to support modifications and the requirements of LC15 arrangements.
They are accountable for ensuring the SCMs maintain the health of the safety cases within their area of responsibility, and understanding the risk profile for these areas. The Site SCM is accountable to the SCOs and the CNO for the prioritisation of management of nuclear and significant non-nuclear risks.

What will your day look like?

• Delivers, Implements, Adopts and Maintains fit for purpose Safety Assessments to support UUK operations.
• Design Authority Representative
• Intelligent Customer and accepter of Nuclear Safety Cases and Periodic Reviews of Safety produced on behalf of UUK by the supply chain
• Acts as the Agent of the Safety Case Owner (for their appointed area(s)) for Safety justifications through the UUK Safety Case Governance Process (Safety Review Group, Independent Peer Review, Independent Technical Assurance, Management of Safety & Environment Committee (MSEC) and Nuclear Safety, Security & Environment Committee (NSSEC)).
• Works collaboratively with the wider Design Authority, Project Delivery Organisation, HSSE and the Safety Case Assessors to inform updates and revisions to the UUK Safety Case Framework
• Input/review of Change Modification Proposals (CMPs) provides advice and guidance in response to events and in support of business improvements.
• Membership of Safety Committees.
• Maintaining expert knowledge of the UK Regulatory framework and the implications for UK Licensees.
• Maintaining competence of Safety Case Managers


What do you need to be great at this role?

• Degree qualified in Science or Technical discipline or equivalent
• Experience in nuclear industry, COMAH or high hazard sites.
• Knowledge of project lifecycle and management requirements on the Capenhurst Site.
• Experience in preparing or reviewing Nuclear, Conventional or Environmental Safety Assessments.
• Specific experience of management and production of safety cases on the Capenhurst Site
• Working knowledge of Urenco Capenhurst departments, activities and opportunities.
• Experience undertaking audits, investigations and inspections.
• Thorough understanding of the UK Regulatory Framework.
• Possesses a detailed knowledge and understanding of how specialist disciplines input and support the development of a Nuclear Safety Case.
• Strong analytical thinking/problem solving skills
• Ability to communicate in technical and commercial forums.
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Safety Case Management
• Experience in balancing risk from conflicting drivers
• Has experience of each stage of the Safety Case lifecycle and experience of Safety Cases from other Licensees.
• Leadership, planning, co-ordinating, organisational, verbal and written communication skills.
• Production and delivery of training courses
