We’re looking for a Head of Design Authority. Based at our Almelo or Gronau locations, the role offers hybrid working (3 days on site, 2 days working from home).

Based at our Almelo or Gronau locations (either site would be suitable) you’ll form part of the Engineering & Design Authority leadership team. This function will provide the centre of excellence regarding Plant Design and Technology, Design Assurance and Governance for the entire Urenco Group.

Engineering and Design Authority is a Global function that provides Engineering services to supports Urenco’s operations in order to improve performance and to solve complex technical/design issues delivers the design of Urenco’s Core Facilities, including oversight of external design & engineering service providers provides full governance, assurance and design expertise provides Engineering services to Group and Site project teams provides independent role of Project Assurance.

What you’ll do:

- Contribute, as a member of the Engineering & Design Authority leadership team to the development of a viable long term strategy and shorter term operational plans, that will enable the organisation to deploy resources necessary for it to respond to external pressures, perform and achieve its objectives.

- Develop, gain agreement to, and implement Group Design and Engineering strategy including Design Governance as part of UTD to support Group businesses covering new builds, new business, decommissioning, and local plant management, optimization and maintenance to meet customer requirement cost effectively and efficiently.

- Act as Design Authority for all Urenco enrichment plants to ensure aligned and ‘state of art’ technology is utilised to define / maintain/ enhance / modify plants and meet Core Technology Design principles and standards and be the guardians for fundamental design principles for Urenco Group.

- As global Process Owner for Design Authority, ensure all relevant standards, policies and procedures are developed maintained, communicated and adhered to across the business.

- Develop, implement and maintain Urenco Group design processes to ensure projects are delivered to required standards and meet best practice, and enables local operational sites to comply fully with current and anticipated regulatory and legal requirements.

- Define, implement and maintain Design processes of major Urenco projects and provide oversight (design assurance) to guarantee the quality output of Design and Engineering teams with UTD.

- Leading a team of highly qualified design, engineering and project assurance experts, supplemented by external contractors to provide global design and engineering service to local site operations.

- Defining and Maintaining the design intent of all Urenco’s Plants/Facilities act as the Intelligent Customer in case design/engineering will be outsourced.

What do you need to thrive in this role?

- Extensive knowledge of engineering and design and understanding of the nuclear industry.

- Detailed knowledge and experience of high hazard safety environments, and the regulatory environment

- Understanding of commercial market and developments that will impact the business/ engineering. Dealing with external vendors also involved in this.

- Experience of managing and influencing stakeholders as a ‘support’ or ‘advisory’ function

- Leading the development and delivery of major engineering design projects.

- Project management skills in complex and technical engineering environments.

- Experience of working with a range of plant operational environments including technical, engineering.
