Over 200 Urenco USA (UUSA) volunteers participated in five community service projects in Lea County and Andrews, Texas during the company’s 13th annual 9/11 Day of Service – a day designed to pay tribute to victims and survivors of September 11, 2001.
Volunteers restored bleachers at the baseball field at Marshall Park in Eunice, and completed a beautification project along the walking trail at Wetlands Park in Andrews.
In Hobbs, volunteers spent their time renovating the House of Hope, a non-profit organization that provides a safe transitional housing alternative to women and children survivors of domestic abuse in Lea County. They also participated in an enhancement project at The Phoenix House, an organization that provides essential services to sexual assault and domestic violence survivors.
The Weekend Hunger Initiative (WHI), a non-profit organization that packs and delivers backpacks of food to Hobbs students who are food insecure over the weekends, hosted a vast number of UUSA volunteers who helped provide building upgrades and a fresh coat of paint.
“We work here, we live here, we give here.” said UUSA’s President and CEO, Karen Fili. “Our volunteers honor those who lost their lives by giving back to deserving organizations and to our community.”
UUSA proudly employs a significant number of U.S. Military Veterans in addition to many former first responders who take great pride in participating each year in 9/11 Day of Service.
Several companies and organizations supported the projects this year including the City of Eunice, the City of Andrews, the JF Maddox Foundation, Hobbs Municipal Schools, Graceland Portable Buildings, Safety and Environmental Solutions, Sherwin Williams, J&J Rentals, PB Materials, Habitat for Humanity, and Lowe’s Home Improvement. UUSA looks forward to continuing the 9/11 Days of Service for many years to come.
