On Monday, December 19, UUSA representatives donated a new electric pallet jack for the WHI Hobbs program.
WHI Hobbs, or Weekend Hunger Initiative, is a non-profit organization in Hobbs, NM, that delivers bags of food to students who are food insecure over the weekends. Their volunteers sort through food donations, pack bags of food for hungry children, help with inventory and even deliver selected bags to schools.
UUSA is always proud to support this organization in its mission to provide for the food insecure children in Lea County and last year, during our 2021 9/11 Day of Service project, UUSA spent several days renovating the WHI Hobbs facility.
“During the project, one of our employees noted the need for a new pallet jack,” shared Mark Rhoads, a project manager for the WHI Hobbs project. “Since Safety is a number one priority at UUSA, we wanted to fill this need and make sure the WHI Hobbs group was able to continue operating as safely as possible.”
The issue was brought up to UUSA’s management team, and they quickly agreed on the necessity of the donation.
The Logistics team helped determine the best options for a replacement pallet jack. Rhoads was able to coordinate the delivery and set up for the new pallet jack—just in time for Christmas.
“This was a total team effort,” Rhoads stated “and now they have a very good piece of safe equipment to unload and move food pallets inside their building.”
“We’re always proud to work with WHI Hobbs and ensure they have the support they need to continue doing good work in our community,” shared Lisa Hardison, UUSA’s Manager of Communications and Public Relations. “I’m so proud of our volunteers for going above and beyond to recognize this need – and that our organization was able to provide a tool that will help WHI Hobbs continue to operate safely.”
