UUSA Adapts Richie’s Enrichment Science Workshops for Students Learning from Home

08 June 2021

Due to restrictions associated with Covid 19, UUSA was unable to host our annual Richie’s Enrichment Science workshops in the traditional way this school year.

During the final week of May, the UUSA team distributed Richie’s Enrichment Science Workshop kits to local schools for students to take home and conduct their own experiments. Over 1,300 fifth-grade students at 20 schools near the UUSA facility received the take-home kit, which included a Richie backpack, a pencil, a ruler, and a science experiment kit.

“The kids were excited to still get to participate in the workshops,” shared Billie Charo, who has organized the Richie Workshops for the past six years. “Each year we go into the schools, the younger kids ask if we’re there for them. We love watching them learn and are so glad that this year’s fifth-graders won’t feel left out.”

UUSA hopes to be able to bring the workshops back to the schools this fall, provided that state restrictions have lifted by that time.
