Urenco has joined the United Nations (UN) Global Compact, the world’s largest sustainability initiative.
Our full membership will help us align our sustainability strategy with the 10 universal principles of the Global Compact.
These principles fall into the categories of Human Rights, Labour, Environment, and Anti-Corruption.
Although joining up to the Compact is voluntary, our membership means we are committed to making the principles part of our business and culture and incorporating them into the decision making process.
It has helped 80% of members improve their sustainability, and we join more than 17,000 companies in over 160 countries by participating.
Furthermore, Urenco will have access to more than 200 live and virtual events to interact with peers, industry experts and the UN around sustainability.
We’ll also be able to use e-learning platform The Academy, go on development programmes, join peer learning groups, and be part of policy and advocacy campaigns.
Urenco Sustainability Reporting Lead, Anna Macdonald, said:
“Joining the Compact further enhances our credibility and commitment to sustainability as one of our core values.
“This practical framework will assist us as we refine, implement and disclose our sustainable policies and practices.
“We’ll also benefit from the sharing of best practice and emerging solutions by engaging in new partnerships.”
Analysis by sustainability ratings provider EcoVadis shows that members of the Compact tend to score higher for their sustainability compared to non-members.
Urenco has already achieved a bronze medal under the EcoVadis system and is looking to improve on this.
