Urenco has signed a multi-year partnership with the University of Cambridge which will enable us to help shape nuclear energy-related higher education and access a pipeline of talent.
Our social impact partnership (SIP) with the Cambridge Nuclear Energy Centre (CNEC) sees us become a member of the Nuclear Industry Club.
The club consists of a number of important energy and engineering companies that are committed to the future of the industry and need more nuclear scientists, engineers and managers coming through their doors.
Amongst many benefits, Urenco will be able to contribute to CNEC’s research strategy, input into the design of a master’s curriculum for scientists, mathematicians and engineers, take part in distinguished speaking seminars and access a pipeline of potential future employees.
We will also be supporting leading academics and researchers in our collaborative efforts – as part of the club – whilst building positive relationships with those who could be the decision-makers and policy shapers of tomorrow.
We can additionally come up with dissertation proposals on topics relevant to the business of Urenco.
Head of Strategy and Corporate Development for Urenco, Sarah Forman, who is also the company’s SIP lead on the partnership and an alumna of the programme, said: “STEM education is incredibly important to us at Urenco, especially during these fast-changing times for our industry where talent and skills will be critical to our success in continuing to provide global energy security.
“Completing the Cambridge MPhil in Nuclear Energy as part of the CNEC programme myself has proven priceless for my own career and I don’t think I would be where I am today had I not had the opportunity.
“I’m therefore proud that Urenco is committed to nurturing the next generation of scientists and engineers in civil nuclear and we are excited about the prospect of this partnership, including with regard to advancing further carbon-free nuclear energy solutions.”
