Read our latest reportThe latest pledge was made at CERAWeek 2025 in Houston, USA, during a nuclear reception which Urenco sponsored, and the World Nuclear Association (WNA) hosted.
It was signed by other large energy users such as Meta, which alongside Amazon and Google, announced plans last year to use new nuclear builds to meet their future energy needs for data centres and artificial intelligence.
Chief Commercial Officer for Urenco, Laurent Odeh, welcomed the support from the global coalition of companies, saying:
“It will be a lot harder to address environmental concerns while facilitating economic development in the world without the reliable, 24/7 baseload power nuclear energy provides.
This support from large energy users is another sign for governments to enable new nuclear projects so we can accelerate construction and meet the energy needs of both industry and the public.”
The news means that the tech companies now join 40 major banks,140 nuclear industry companies, and 31 governments who have already joined the pledge to increase nuclear capacity significantly. This started with the Net Zero Nuclear pledge at COP28 in Dubai in late 2023.
During the panel, which Laurent took part in, there were calls to world leaders to issue policies for rapid nuclear development and new power stations to meet the growing energy demands of data centres, refineries, ever increasing domestic manufacturing needs, and other needs of industry.
