Read our latest reportOn Thursday 25 April, Rafael Grossi, the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), visited Urenco’s Netherlands site in Almelo along with top officials from the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Reinhard Hinterreither, the CEO of ETC.
After a brief introduction by our CEO, Boris Schucht and Almelo Managing Director Ad Louter, Mr Grossi toured uranium enrichment plant SP5 and the facility where we produce isotopes for medical, industrial and research purposes.
One of the topics that were discussed is how Urenco can contribute to enhance security of supply for both the nuclear fuel cycle and the supply chain for nuclear medicine.
Mr Grossi visited multiple organisations and institutions in the Netherlands in the same week. On Wednesday he gave a key note speech at an event at Delft University. This event was combined with a careers fair with a special focus on the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Fellowship Programme (MSCFP) which aims to help increase the number of women in the nuclear field. Urenco sponsors the MSCFP through our Social Impact Programme and was present with a stand to inform students with nuclear aspirations.
Mr Grossi also had talks with several Dutch Ministers and on Friday, he visited the construction site of the PALLAS reactor in Petten, which is being built to ensure future access to medical radio isotopes.
