Urenco’s nuclear society membership unanimously approved

22 June 2022

Urenco has joined the European Nuclear Society (ENS) after its General Assembly unanimously approved our request for membership this month.

The ENS is an association of 21 nuclear societies and their Young Generation Networks as well as 32 corporate members. It is the largest organisation of its kind in Europe for the advancement of nuclear science and technology.

By becoming members of the ENS, Urenco becomes part of a key European forum promoting the development of nuclear science and technology and the understanding of peaceful nuclear applications.

It will also mean that Urenco can network with industry leaders and technical experts from around the world and from across the nuclear supply chain to highlight the role of nuclear energy in the decarbonisation agenda; promote international standardisation across the sector; and develop the expertise and capabilities needed for the future of the industry.

Beyond this, ENS helps connect Nuclear Young Generation Networks (YGN) across Europe and provide a platform for learning and networking for young professionals in all areas of the nuclear field. As co-founder of global  Nuclear for Climate campaign, the ENS, and particularly its YGN, will run the preparations for COP27 in Egypt this year and as ENS members we will be seeking to support these activities.

We received the news directly from the President of the Society, Leon Cizelj, and have been granted full corporate membership.

Emily Isaacs, Head of Government Affairs for Urenco, said:

“Urenco is proud to become an active member of the ENS and we look forward to discussing the challenges and helping identify solutions to deliver better outcomes for the industry across a range of key areas.

By working more closely with the ENS, we will be able to harness each other’s expertise,  resources, and influence to improve key areas of mutual interest for the benefit of the nuclear industry”.

ENS President Leon Cizelj said: “It is great to see the ENS community growing and cooperating together with the European top companies in the nuclear sector.

“We’d like to welcome Urenco on board and hope this will be just the start.”

The society allows other nuclear organisations and professionals in Europe to come together so they can share knowledge, experience and expertise about the science and tech sides of nuclear energy.

It has over 12,000 professionals from academia as well as industry, authorities and research centres.
