Urenco workers volunteer at women’s charity

Urenco employees turned helpers for an afternoon as they volunteered for a women’s charity fundraiser event.

Three of the Communications team from Stoke Poges volunteered at Smart Works Reading, a charity which provides women with free clothing for job interviews, as well as interview coaching to boost their confidence.

Rosie, Aletha and Nic joined volunteers from other companies to help set up the charity’s Summer Fashion Sale on 11 June. This included some lifting, arranging items, and setting up rooms for the sale, as well as making up goody bags.

The three had signed up as part of Volunteers’ Week in June.

The sale itself took place the next day and raised more than £5,500 for the charity, essential funds which will go towards its running costs and enabling staff to keep on providing services for free.

Rosie, Senior Communications Officer for Urenco’s Sustainability team, said: “The charity clearly has synergy with our sustainability ambitions including recycling clothing, boosting health, welfare and employment.

“We all enjoyed helping out and it was amazing how much light work was made by so many volunteers being involved at once – and being so committed.”

Anna Fowler, Development and Fundraising Manager at Smart Works Reading, said: “The efforts of volunteers, including those from Urenco, will directly help dozens of local women in need get back into employment.”
