Building a culture of accountability is a vital part of the ongoing safety conversation

28 April 2022 Global News

On World Day for Safety and Health at Work, we want to highlight the importance of everyone's safety: employees, contractors and suppliers.

At Urenco, safety is the top priority and one of our core values.

So on this World Day for Safety and Health at Work, April 28, we want to highlight the importance of safety at our sites.

Our strong safety culture is driven by accountability where employees are encouraged to take responsibility for their personal safety as well that of their co-workers and family at home.

In 2021, over 1,800 Urenco employees and contractors took part in a global DuPont safety perception survey, which evaluated the progress of our safety culture. In almost every part of our organisation, there was an improvement in our score, and we plan to build on this further.

Jenise Dahlin, one of Urenco’s key safety leaders said, “We continually strive to improve our safety culture and our endeavours with DuPont have helped us to track our progress over time.

“Through this partnership, we have identified where improvements can be made in our management of safety which includes having an environment where all personnel are part of the safety conversation.”

Tony Roberts, Head of Group Procurement at Urenco, said: “Everyone is important, employees, contractors, and suppliers.

“Contractors and the supply chain are crucial to what we do at Urenco. Indeed, they help us deliver and achieve success in the industry.

“The point here is that an open, ongoing dialogue about safety – regardless of one’s employment status – must always be present in our workplace.”

Our approach to safety goes hand in hand with One Urenco, a set of behaviours which encourages us to always work collaboratively and cooperatively with others across different teams and functions.

It’s about building productive relationships, respect, bringing people together and to ensure the health and safety of our employees is maintained to the highest possible standards.
