Urenco has taken a further step forward with its environmental aspirations as a company by improving its Carbon Disclosure Project score (CDP).
Our 2022 Climate Change disclosure score, under the CDP, is a B, which is up from a B- last year.
Our latest score relates to our activities in 2021.
Under CDP criteria, a B means we have addressed the environmental impacts of our business and ensure “good environmental management.” It also shows evidence that we are managing our environmental impact.
Only 283 companies out of a possible 15,000 scored an A for their Climate Change disclosure, which means they are at “environmental leadership” level.
Rob Little, Head of Sustainability at Urenco, said: “This is good news and shows we are heading in the right direction as we continue our efforts to decarbonise our emissions directly and indirectly, and work even more closely with our supply chain and customers to do the same.
“I would like to thank our Net Zero team, including colleagues at all four of Urenco’s sites worldwide, for their ongoing hard work in this area as well as their exploration of innovative solutions.
“We will receive a summary of our performance and areas to improve from CDP shortly, and we will identify opportunities to maintain and improve our score in 2023.”
The CDP says 66% of D- to A- scoring companies this year did not improve their scores from last year, but this is not true in Urenco’s case.
Urenco is committed to a sustainable, net zero carbon future, and was the first nuclear organisation to join the Carbon Pledge in 2020.
This year we announced ambitious science aligned targets to hit net zero on our direct and indirect emissions (scopes 1 & 2) by 2030, and a target to reduce 30% of our supply chain’s carbon emissions by the same date.
Overall, our goal is to hit net zero as a company by 2040.
