Urenco increases support to IAEA Fellowship Programme

10 June 2021

Urenco is donating a further €100,000 a year for the next three years to the International Atomic Energy Agency’s (IAEA) Marie Sklodowska-Curie Fellowship Programme.

The programme provides scholarships to young women studying for a Master’s degree in a nuclear-related subject.

The new donation was announced by Urenco CEO, Boris Schucht, at a meeting with Rafael Mariano Grossi, Director General of the IAEA, this week.

“I am grateful for the support of Urenco and I encourage others to join the initiative,” said Mr Grossi. “By encouraging young women to study nuclear subjects today, we are creating a pool of qualified professional women in this field for the future. They will contribute to the development and achievements in nuclear science and technology all over the world, and will go on to become leaders and role models.”

Boris Schucht, Urenco CEO, said: “We are delighted to continue our support of this very successful programme, which has already helped 100 women to further their studies. Advancing education, skills and research is one of the core workstreams of our Social Investment Programme, which supports social and environmental projects where we believe our involvement can make a significant difference. Nuclear power is vital to tackle climate change. By choosing a career in this field, the programme’s students will be part of an industry that is making a valuable contribution to net-zero targets.”
