Earlier this month, the annual Young Generation Network (YGN) seminar and dinner was held in Edinburgh’s Dynamic Earth Centre. The YGN, is a branch of the Nuclear Institute and this year’s seminar was the 25th of its kind. There were nearly 300 attendees from across the nuclear sector and this year’s theme was The Nuclear Renaissance: A Transition to a Sustainable Future.
The theme explored the very topical conversation of the necessary part nuclear must play to contribute to the UK’s goals to achieve net zero by 2050. The YGN used the hashtag #NetZeroNeedsNuclear throughout the event.
Representing Urenco were colleagues from across the Group. Commenting on the day, Safi Syed, Business Development Project Manager, said, “This was my first time attending the seminar, which exceeded my expectations. After over two years of virtual meetings, it was great to meet and network with others. There was a superb line-up of speakers with various insights from industry. I particularly enjoyed hearing further about the role of SMRs, the potential of hydrogen and nuclear fusion, all with the common goal to support net zero by 2050.”
Marc Wilson, Assistant Commercial Manager at Urenco Nuclear Stewardship said, “The YGN annual seminar and dinner was a great insight into what is happening currently in the industry and what is planned in the future.
“Quite often, we can become focussed on the present, rather than looking at the bigger picture. Events like this give you the opportunity to reach out and understand what it is the industry is looking to achieve and how it is planning to do so. The emphasis on sustainability gave me real food for thought on some of the challenges that we face and how the industry can step up to support world goals.”
