UUSA serves community in annual 9/11 Day of Service
15 September 2016
On September 9 and 10 2016, UUSA honoured those who were impacted by the events of September 11 by changing the lives of 26 families in Eunice, NM and Andrews, TX. During the eighth annual 9/11 Day of Service, volunteers assisted our senior citizens in refurbishing and upgrading their homes to improve their quality of living.
According to the US Census Bureau, in NM nearly 8% of seniors over the age of 60 have incomes below the poverty level and nearly 20% of our seniors are also veterans.
Clint Williamson, Vice President of Communications & External Relations at UUSA said,
“What greater way to honour those who have given so much to their country and communities than helping them improve their quality of life.”
What started as a minor project in 2008 by a handful of employees in one UUSA department has evolved into the company’s largest annual community service project with more than 250 volunteers participating in this year’s event. This year’s projects provided essential repairs to 11 homes in Eunice and 15 homes in Andrews.
Bob Bare, the manager of the Facilities Department at UUSA stated,
“This is the one project that the site looks forward to every year. The hard work by our Facilities staff along with the full backing of our Management team at UUSA really makes this all possible. This is one of the many ways we pay respect to the victims of the 9-11 attacks and show our appreciation to these communities.”
UUSA has partnered with several companies to assist in these efforts and would like to thank Waste Control Specialists, Southern Food Services, BHI Energy Power Services, ETUS, Border States Electric, and Dial Light for volunteering their time and effort to participate in this event. UUSA also thanks Lowes, Sherwin Williams, Mustang Lumber, and Waste Management for their generous support and donation of materials that make these home repairs possible.
