We’re looking for a Senior Project Engineer (Commissioning)Based at our Capenhurst location you will manage specialist project requirements, ensuring timely delivery within budget, while maintaining the highest quality standards and fostering strong client relationships.

What will your day look like:
As a Senior Project Engineer (Commissioning), your key responsibilities will include:
- Provide Specialist Expertise: Deliver expert knowledge in areas such as Core Equipment, Cascade Design & Installation, Plant Control Systems, or bespoke R&D projects, ensuring technical solutions are fit for purpose and aligned with project objectives.
- Design Compliance: Ensure all designs comply with Urenco engineering principles, international and local legislation, safety standards, customer contract requirements, and internal company standards.
- Technical Development and Problem Resolution: Lead the coordination of technical developments, design integration, and problem resolution throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring issues are addressed proactively.
- Project Budget and Cost Control: Monitor and control expenditures within the project budget, ensuring accurate forecasting, cost predictability, and financial performance against targets.
- Supplier and Subcontractor Management: Review and approve supplier/subcontractor documentation, ensuring compliance with quality, technical, and schedule requirements.
- Project Reporting: Prepare interim and final project reports, capturing progress, technical scope performance, risks, and benefits achieved.
- Collaborative Engineering Solutions: Work closely with Project Managers, Construction Managers, and other stakeholders to ensure all engineering activities meet contract quality, safety, health, and environmental (HSE) requirements.
- Change Management: Develop and review basis of estimates for project changes, ensuring any scope changes are accurately reflected in project plans and delivered on time.
- Commissioning and Acceptance Management: Lead the preparation, review, and approval of commissioning tasks. Ensure a robust Commissioning and Acceptance Plan is developed and manage the interfaces during commissioning to guarantee successful handover.
- Testing and Approval: Witness and approve key commissioning tests (Factory Acceptance Testing - FAT and Site Acceptance Testing - SAT), ensuring the quality and functionality of deliverables.
- Handover and Documentation: Manage the collation of life-time quality records, reservation lists, and handover certificates, ensuring a seamless transition from project completion to operational handover.
- Risk and Issue Management: Identify, assess, and mitigate risks across the engineering and commissioning phases to ensure project timelines and quality standards are met without compromising safety.
- Global Supplier Engagement: Attend global suppliers’ sites to conduct Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), ensuring technical and quality specifications are met before equipment is shipped.
- Continuous Improvement: Proactively drive continuous improvement within engineering processes, utilising lessons learned from previous projects and ensuring that best practices are implemented across all future projects.
What Do You Need to Thrive in This Role:
To succeed as a Senior Project Engineer (Commissioning) at Urenco, you will require:
- Educational Qualifications:
- A degree in a relevant engineering discipline (such as Mechanical, Electrical, Control Systems, or Process Engineering).
- Specialist Expertise:
- Deep technical knowledge in one or more of the following areas: Cascade Design & Installation, Plant Control Systems, Core Process Delivery, or bespoke R&D Project Delivery.
- Experience in managing Export Control requirements within your specialised field.
- Professional Experience:
- A minimum of 10 years of Project Engineering experience, demonstrating a proven track record of successful project delivery.
- At least 5 years of experience working across the full design project lifecycle, including concept development, execution, and commissioning.
- Experience in leading and working within multi-cultural teams across diverse project environments.
- Leadership and Autonomy:
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage multi-disciplinary teams, while working independently with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrable success in overseeing projects from conception to delivery, ensuring the achievement of key objectives in terms of cost predictability and quality assurance.
- Project Management:
- Proven capability in managing complex projects, with a focus on delivering high-quality results on time and within budget.
