We’re looking for a Director of Government Affairs UK. Based at Urenco Limited, Head office location in Stoke Poges, but moving to our new Paddington office next year. You will engage externally with government officials, Ministers and MPs to support Urenco’s strategic objectives and also support and advise both the Global Head of Government Affairs and the CEO and an internal team of experts with regard to URENCO’s business in the UK from a government relations perspective.
At Urenco we’re committed to giving you opportunities to be your best. If you feel you meet some, but not all of what we're looking for, please still apply. We believe in embracing the passion and potential of our people, and to achieve this we offer market leading training and development experiences. Along with the opportunity to be mentored and coached by some of the smartest minds in the industry.

What you’ll do:

• To proactively engage on behalf of Urenco to shape policy development and new laws and regulations and political debates which touch on nuclear and URENCO in general. To provide thought leadership and advocacy on the role of nuclear in the energy mix and its role in a decarbonised world.
• To provide updates to internal stakeholders (including to draft and present political reports to the Executive Committee ) and to draft position papers for use with external stakeholders.
• To create targeted external communications with UK government officials, including DESNZ and DBT and to collaborate from a government and public policy perspective with the nuclear industry in the UK.
• To work closely and collaboratively with URENCO colleagues, especially in Legal and Government Affairs, and external advisers and to manage the latter.
• To provide advice and support to the URENCO Group in ensuring that its activities are in compliance with all relevant regulations.
• To deliver and provide input to global government affairs projects.
• To line manage a direct report (UK & EU Senior Government Affairs manager)

What do you need to thrive in this role?
• Educated to degree level (post-grad qualification preferred).
• Excellent cross-Whitehall understanding and network, including an understanding of political parties, their platforms and key decision-makers.
• Appreciation of public policy surrounding nuclear issues, Net Zero, COP and the role of nuclear energy with renewables.
• Understanding and interest in politics and international relations
• An understanding of non-proliferation and export control regimes would be an advantage but is not essential.
• Brussels/EU institutions knowledge an advantage
• MS office user, including Word/Excel/PowerPoint.
• Experience working in Whitehall or demonstrable level of working closely with UK government is essential.
• Experience working in a matrix-style environment
• Experience of working within the energy or nuclear sector or other ‘In-house’ government relations experience in a highly regulated sector
• Demonstrated ability to create targeted external communications, ideally with UK government officials and industry bodies.
